Splitting tips between front and back of house

Two-step split

1. Divide each pool between groups by percentage, for example 80% front of house and 20% back of house.
2. Inside each group, split by hours × points.

In Tiptrail, give each role a group (it defaults to the department in your export), then set the group percentages. If a group has nobody on the clock in a pool, its percentage goes to the groups that worked, and you're told.

Can the kitchen share in tips?

Under the federal FLSA, back-of-house employees can be included in a mandatory pool only if the employer takes no tip credit and pays at least the full minimum wage. State rules can differ. See tip pooling rules. Not legal advice.
